Milan are heading for a revolution in the summer transfer market, which could bring in a string of new first-team players and a new head coach to replace Sergio Conceicao, but one of the Rossoneri’s targets is to increase the number of Italian players in the squad according to recent reports.

Milan’s lack of Italian representatives has become a joke among rival Serie A fans in recent years. The Rossoneri have not provided any Italy internationals for either of the last two national team squads and Matteo Gabbia is the only Milan player to have been called up to Luciano Spalletti’s squad over the last 12 months.

For those reasons, Milan are actively looking at recruiting more homegrown talents in the upcoming transfer window according to reports from several outlets over the last few weeks.

There are several candidates in line to join the Rossoneri, the dream option being a return for Newcastle United midfielder Sandro Tonali, who is also of interest to Juventus. The Magpies midfielder is not expected to come cheaply given his contract (running until 2028), and the fact that Newcastle have not expressed a desire to let him leave.

Samuele Ricci is another option according to multiple reports over the course of the 2024-25 season. The talented 23-year-old has attracted interest from a number of top European clubs this season, including Manchester City in the wake of Rodri’s cruciate ligament injury, but Milan have also been working on an agreement with Torino for several months already.

Udinese’s Lorenzo Lucca, who was involved in both of the Nations League quarter-final legs against Germany this month, is another Italy international who could be on the move this summer.

Milan are looking for another striker to compete with Santiago Gimenez, with Tammy Abraham and Luka Jovic likely to leave, but Lucca is also an option for Napoli, as well as Milan’s rivals Inter.

Calciomercato.com claims that Milan are also interested in a deal for 20-year-old Fiorentina centre-back Pietro Comuzzo, who is also not expected to be a cheap signing. Fiorentina had reportedly rejected a €35m offer from Napoli during the January transfer window.

Bologna’s Giovanni Fabbian is another option. Milan are expected to talk to the Rossoblu in the summer given that they have an option to buy for Rossoneri graduate Tommaso Pobega, and there is a possibility that Milan seek to include Fabbian in negotiations. Inter, however, have an option to buy him back for €12m.

A marginally cheaper option could be Hellas Verona defender Diego Coppola, who has also been linked with a step up to a bigger Serie A club this summer. That said, the centre-back department is not considered a priority area for the Rossoneri in the next transfer window.
